Richard Myers

Dick Myers attended the University of Nebraska on a U.S. Navy scholarship where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  Taking his commission in the United States Navy Civil Engineering Corp., he managed the Seabee Electricians School and later had full responsibility for the utilities in Adak, Alaska, a town of 5,000 people.  He thereafter earned a Juris Doctor degree at the University of California, Hastings, where he won the American Jurisprudence Award in Patents.  Dick is admitted to the State Bar of California and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as the United States Supreme Court.

Dick has extensive experience in the medical device industry, having worked as a patent counsel for such international giants as American Hospital and Supply Corporation and Baxter Healthcare Corporation.  In private practice, Dick has specialized in the challenges of start-up, non-public companies where, in one case, he developed an international portfolio of over 300 patents, more than half of which covered existing products.

Dick has genuine concern for the welfare of his clients and seeks to facilitate the economic management of intellectual property.  For companies with a larger engineering or research and development division, Dick regularly provides presentations that educate both engineers and executives alike on economic ways to manage their intellectual property.  Dick has also served as a trial expert on the licensing of patents and continues to use his licensing expertise to aid companies and individuals in profiting from their intellectual property.  Dick’s extensive intellectual property experience provides an invaluable asset to his clients and to the members of the firm.
